LimeWire is sued by multiple record labels for online piracy

The developers of the popular file sharing application LimeWire has now been sued by some of the world’s biggest record labels.

These companies are claiming that LimeWire promote digital piracy by letting users share digital content without permission from the owners.

The lawsuit has been filed in a Manhattan federal court and is just the latest of many similar suits against makers of file sharing and p2p applications.

The companies behind this latest lawsuit include some big names like Universal Music, Sony BMG, EMI Group Plc, and Warner Music Group Corp.

They are demanding $150,000 in damages for every song digitally pirated on their service claiming that the developers of the application profit from the illicit downloads of their music.
