e-Media Exchange: eBay working on a television advertisement auction website

Internet ecommerce giants eBay is working with a group of major TV advertisers to work on an online auction marketplace.

This online marketplace would enable advertisers to bid on commercial airtime as they aim to take on television channels, which charge exorbitant prices to run their ads.

The project has been named e-Media Exchange and it would begin selling airtime for advertising this coming January.

Some of the big names associated with this new project include Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Wal-Mart, Toyota’s Lexus unit, Home Depot, and Brown-Forman.

Hani Durzy, an eBay spokesperson spoke on this project: “This group of advertisers wants to test out the creation of an online marketplace for buying and selling online advertising. We’ve been talking to them for some time, and they have apparently chosen us to help build out this pilot program. We’re excited about it. This is fundamentally what eBay does better than anyone else.”
