MySpace.com collaborates with Google for search and advertisement
News Corp.’s Fox Interactive Media has said in a statement that they are collaborating with search engine giant Google for their MySpace.com social networking portal.
MySpace.com would now be using Google technology for MySpace.com’s search system in a multiyear search and advertising deal.
The deal also covers some other Fox online properties. This confirmation come after weeks of speculation on what company they would chose out of Google, Yahoo! and MSN for their online search requirements.
As per incoming reports, the deal would see Google paying at least $900 million in revenue share payments based on certain traffic and other commitments promised by Fox.
Peter Chernin, Chief Operating Officer of News Corp. added in a statement on this new development: “Our partnership with Google underscores News Corp.’s continued evolution to become a powerful force in the digital media marketplace.”
Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt had these views: “MySpace.com is a widely acknowledged leader in user-generated content and incorporating search and advertising furthers our mission of making the world’s information universally accessible and useful.”
