Sprint Nextel to develop a WiMax powered network
Sprint Nextel Corp. is America’s third largest mobile service provider and the company has now announced their plans to develop a network powered by next generation WiMax technology.
Sprint Nextel said in a statement that they expect this new high-speed wireless network to be ready in some of their prime markets by sometime next year.
This network would be capable of taking on DSL and cable TV based broadband services and would provide four times faster than speeds available on current wireless networks.
Gary Forsee, Sprint’s chief executive added that Intel Corp. would be supplying equipment to build the network while Motorola Inc. and Samsung Telecommunications America will develop WiMax-compatible phones and mobile devices.
