Sony launches Wi-Fi capable Mylo personal communicator
Sony continues to launch new devices taking advantage of emerging technologies in the market. The maker of consumer electronics and gaming consoles has now launched a wireless-enabled device aimed primarily at people who like to send text messages and make free calls over the Internet.
This new product from Sony has been named Mylo personal communicator and it is capable of operating on the 802.11b wireless networks.
Sony has priced this device at around $350 and it is expected to be available on sale in retail markets by September this year.
Sony said that the Mylo which means “my life online†would take on rival products like phones with cellular and Wi-Fi capabilities and a number of messaging and entertainment features.
Mylo features a 2.4-inch color LCD with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for quick thumb typing. It also comes pre-loaded with instant messaging applications from Google, Yahoo and Skype.
It also features a web browser and inbuilt support for web mail services from Google and Yahoo. Looks like MSN users are somewhat out of luck. The device comes with 1GB of storage space, which the users can use for storing music, photos and video clips.
