Alltel Corp. to provide podcast support on cellphones
Alltel Corp. is the fifth largest mobile service provider in the US market. The company has now said that they would soon provide a service to let their customers download audio clips from the Internet to cellphones.
It would be very close to having support for podcasts on your mobile phones. This offer would also help the company move beyond the traditional voice services and might get them new customers.
Alltel added that they plan to charge $3.99 a month to let subscribers download or stream Web-based clips. They are collaborating with technology providers Melodeo of Seattle for this new service offering.
Jupiter Research analyst Julie Ask spoke on this new development in her note: “There’s no doubt that there’s interest in podcasts. The only open question is to what extent I’m going to do this on the fly or plan and take it with me.”
