HBO Video to release “Sopranos” DVD in high definition

HBO Video has confirmed that they are planning to release “The Sopranos: Season 6, Part 1” in high definition format on HD DVD disks.

With this “The Sopranos” would become the first TV series to be released on high-definition video discs.

The release would be made on the same day the company would launch the season’s disk on regular DVD format.

HBO Video would price the HD version at $129.99, $30 more than the standard DVD version. They are also planning to launch the Blu-Ray version of the series sometime next year.

HD DVD format has been developed by Japanese tech company Toshiba and it is competing with Sony’s Blu-Ray format to become the standard for next generation high definition storage format.
