Advanced Micro Devices launch updated Opteron processors

Rivals to Intel in the microprocessor market, AMD has launched updated versions of its processors for business computers.

The company is hoping that these updated AMD Opteron processors would help them compete with newer server processors from Intel.

AMD also added that they are on track to launch their Quad-Core processors by the middle of next year.

As per the information released by the company, these updated chips include faster and more efficient memory technology that will help boost processing speed by 10 percent while using the same amount of power as previous chips.

Brent Kerby, product manager for the Opteron spoke on these new products: “These products will definitely provide us with more flexibility with regards to the product line. We haven’t had to cut prices as much because customers have been willing to pay a small incremental (premium).”
