Apple admit iPod workers in China are working excessively
Apple Computers has released the report of labor conditions at its iPod plant in China.
The company has admitted that workers in these Chinese factories sometimes did more than 60 hours a week. In addition, some of these workers actually worked more than six consecutive days 25% of the time.
Apple has admitted that these working hours are not acceptable and they would now be instructing their suppliers to enforce a “normal” 60-hour week.
However, Apple added that their survey did not find any evidence of enforced labor or use of child labor.
This report was prepared by an audit team, which was sent to an unnamed plant in China by Apple Computers to review the claims made by a British newspaper.
Apple added in a statement: “Our investigation found that our top iPod manufacturing partner, Foxconn, complies with our supplier code of conduct in most areas and is taking steps to correct the violations we found.”
