General Motors Canada to build Chevrolet Camaro

General Motors has confirmed that they would be building the renewed version of their legendary Chevrolet Camaro model at their Canadian plant just outside Toronto.

This decision itself is expected to save thousands of jobs at this plant. The production of this car is expected to begin sometime in 2008 and the car is expected to be available in the retail showrooms by early 2009.

The company has two plants located at Oshawa and one of these was due to be closed in 2008. This would not happen now and GM would save around 2,700 jobs.

GM would carry out a C$740 million makeover at this plant to make it capable of manufacturing different vehicles.

Arturo Elias, president of GM Canada said: “The Oshawa car plant has been selected as the plant to manufacture one of GM’s most celebrated new vehicles, the Chevrolet Camaro.”
