Deutsche Telekom AG told to open up its network to competitors
European Union regulators have said that Deutsche Telekom would have to provide greater access to its telephone network to their rivals.
Deutsche Telekom is the Europe’s largest telephone company and the decision would help the consumers, as the competition would lead to lower prices for mobile and internet services.
The commission said in a statement that Deutsche Telekom must offer bitstream Web access, which would enable their competitors to sell Internet services to consumers. And the prices would have to be approved by the commission.
Viviane Reding, the EU telecommunications commissioner added: “To open the German broadband markets to competition will lead to better services and lower Internet access prices for consumers.â€
