AMD aims to capture 40% of the server market by 2009

The smaller player in the microprocessor market AMD has said that they are aiming to capture around 40% of the server processor market by 2009.

The company plays a secondary role to the giants Intel in this segment and has done well in the recent years with their high performance processors.

Commercial Business Vice President Marty Seyer spoke on their goals: “There’s no reason why AMD can’t achieve 40 percent.”

The market for server processors is expected to grow 11 percent a year on average to US$62 billion, or 11.8 million unit shipments, in 2010 as per market experts.

AMD recently managed to win over Dell as a new customer and this would give them a huge boost to achieve this goal. Until recently, Dell had been using Intel processors exclusively for their products.
