Virgin enters online music selling business
In spite of the reports in media that selling music online is not as profitable a deal, as it looks like, there is no shortage of the new entrants. The latest to enter the fray is British tycoon Richard Branson’s Virgin Group. They have entered the market with a Digital Megastore and plan to sell music at the same price as Apple Stores at 99 cents.
Apart from just music (they plan to have more than a million songs on sale), they are also planning to promote and sell music players through this service. Virgin also will offer a subscription-based service, called Digital Music Club, for 7.99 dollars per month, allowing unlimited access to its library, and a streaming music and radio service.
The main advantage that virgin would have over other competitors in the market is the youthful image that Virgin has and their big user base from other existing Virgin services.
