Toyota considering a new auto plant in Karnataka
Japanese automaker Toyota is rumored to be considering establishing a new manufacturing plant in Karnataka to meet the growing demand in the Indian market.
As per incoming reports, Toyota is close to finalizing a deal with the Karnataka government to set up its second car-making plant in the state.
This plant might be used by the company to make their compact car for the Indian market, which is expected to bring the sales number.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor MD Atsushi Toyoshima spoke on these rumors: “Karnataka is one of the top picks for our second car plant. Having a second car plant in Karnataka would help reduce our costs.”
Toyota Motor Corp executive V-P Yoshima Inaba added: “A small car is very much on our agenda, but a timeframe for its roll-out is yet to be fixed. India is priority market for us, and we know that we are under-represented in India. So, it is very natural to look at that (small car) segment and build a car for this market.â€
