After Dell, Apple recalling Sony manufactured batteries
Just a couple of days after Dell’s historic recall of a record number of batteries powering their laptop machines, Apple Computers have announced a similar recall.
And again Sony manufactured batteries are the culprit. Apple is now recalling as many as 1.8 million batteries, which could potentially result in a fire problem due to overheating of the batteries.
The batteries being recalled are lithium-ion batteries made by a Sony Corp subsidiary in Japan.
The iPod maker said in a statement that they have received as many as nine reports of lithium-ion battery packs overheating. In two cases, the user suffered minor burns while the others resulted in minor property damage.
However, the affected products are older models of their laptops. Recently launched MacBook and MacBook Pro owners are safe.
