TiVo to provide software to Cox for digital video recorders

Pioneers in the field TiVo has said that they are going to provide software for digital video recorders to cable company Cox Communications.

This announcement comes just days after they win against satellite-TV broadcaster EchoStar Communications on a patent dispute.

This would also strengthen their position against the cable companies who provide their own DVRs to customers.

The two companies however declined to reveal the financial details of their deal to the media.

This is the second such major deal for TiVo, which are already working with Comcast Corp. on similar technologies.

As part of this deal, TiVo will customize its software so it can be downloaded onto Cox’s existing DVR boxes.
