SK Telecom to help china develop 3G technology based network
South Korea’s top mobile carrier SK Telecom has confirmed that they are collaborating with the Chinese government to develop their third generation network.
The deal has been signed on with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and it is expected to give SK Telecom a stronger foothold in the country.
SK Telecom is also now expected to establish a joint research center in China to develop a 3G mobile telecom standard.
China is looking at using the division-synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) technology for this network.
The country needs this network in place before the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and they would learn from SK Telecom’s experience in establishing such a network in South Korea.
