Google-Apple Connection: Eric Schmidt on Apple Computer’s board
This news is kind of a surprise. Apple Computer has confirmed that Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt is joining its board.
This means that another high profile name from the IT world is now part of the Apple’s Board of directors.
Google as a result might now have a say in the company, which makes the awesomely popular iPod range of digital music and video players.
Considering Google is also a potential competitor of Microsoft, there might be even bigger consequences of this new development.
Apple’s Board of Directors includes other high profile names including former Vice President Al Gore, Genentech Inc. CEO Arthur Levinson and Intuit Inc. Chairman William Campbell.
Steve Jobs said on this new appointment: “Eric is obviously doing a terrific job as CEO of Google, and we look forward to his contributions as a member of Apple’s board of directors. Like Apple, Google is very focused on innovation and we think Eric’s insights and experience will be very valuable in helping to guide Apple in the years ahead.”
This move also explains on why Google has not shown any interest in launching its own digital music store to challenge the domination of Apple iTunes.
