Intel launches new Xeon Server processors
Microprocessor market giants Intel have announced the launch of their latest dual-core Xeon server chips.
Intel claims that these new processors deliver significantly more processing power in multi-processor business hardware as well as greater flexibility for companies pursuing system consolidation.
The codename for these processors during the development phase was Tulsa. The company said in a statement that the Xeon 7100 series chips are twice as powerful and triple the performance-per-watt capabilities of previous Xeon MP Processors.
Intel spokesperson Nick Knupffer added: “The four-way server market is being driven by performance and reliability. These new processors address both of those areas, while also running cooler.â€
IDC analyst Vernon Turner added: “This is an important step for Intel, not only in going head-to-head with AMD and the Opteron server chips, but also to show its customers that the company can develop multi-core systems that address enterprise workloads.â€
