Maruti aiming at sales of 1 million units per annum
Indian’s automotive market leader Maruti has said that they are targeting sales of around a million units per annum by the end of this decade.
The company is planning to invest 60 billion rupees to expand their manufacturing capacities. They are building a new car plant, a diesel engine unit and a transmission facility in India.
The aim is pretty ambitious considering the whole Indian car market generated just around 1.14 million units in the fiscal year through March 2006.
Maruti is expecting to sell around 600,000 units this financial year and expand their sales by launching a couple of diesel models by the end of the year.
They are also aiming to start exporting a small car to Europe in the 2008-2009 fiscal year. The goal is to export around 100,000 cars a year to add to their numbers.
However, being a Maruti owner myself I am more worried on how they plan to provide service and support to their customers. My own Swift has seen more scratches and dents on it in the service station than on roads. Every time the car goes to the service station, the messier it becomes for me.
