Motorola and Nokia to work on mobile TV standards
World’s dominating mobile phone manufacturers Nokia and Motorola have said that they are working together to allow users to see television broadcasts through their mobile phones.
The two companies would now work on Digital Video Broadcast open standards. This technology enables mobile phones to broadcast to mobile device with reduced battery consumption. They expect this standard to support broadcasting of as many as 50 channels on one single network.
Motorola is the market leader in the US market while Nokia dominates the overall mobile market in the world. These two companies sell more than 50% of all mobile phones in the world and both are also big players in the market for networks for mobile communications.
Juniper Research has said in their research report that mobile TV services will reach nearly $6 billion in 2010 and $11.7 billion by 2011, up from $94.57 million this year.
