eMusic launches service across Europe
Digital music download service eMusic has announced that they are now making available their service throughout the European region.
They are aiming to provide an alternative to Apple iTunes digital music service, which only caters to people with Apple iPod player.
They would now become the first player to launch in all 25 European Union member nations. eMusic would specifically challenge Apple iTunes in bigger markets like Germany and Britain.
In addition, they would become one of the first major players in smaller markets like Malta and Hungary where Apple iTunes is not available.
The service carries around 1.7 million songs from 8,500 independent record labels. Some big names available on their store are Johnny Cash, Bob Marley, Franz Ferdinand and Bjork.
However, they lack the support from four major music companies as they sell the music in DRM free MP3 format. eMusic Chief Executive David Pakman spoke on their service: “Just as Sundance has branded independent film as a genre, we are doing the same with independent music.â€
