eDonkey latest to pay huge fine to escape lawsuits
MetaMachine Inc. is the company behind the once popular p2p application eDonkey and they have now agreed to pay $30 million to avoid potential copyright infringement lawsuits from the recording industry.
This information was revealed from court documents filed this Tuesday. They have become the latest of the seven technology companies who had received letters from the recording industry telling them to shut down their networks.
Some other networks to have reached similar agreements include BearShare, i2Hub, WinMX, and Grokster.
This news event is just another victory for the Recording Industry Association of America. Mitch Bainwol, chairman and chief executive of RIAA said in a statement on this development: “With this new settlement, another domino falls, and we have further strengthened the footing of the legal marketplace.â€
