Apple iTunes to stay away from most Asian countries for now
Apple is the market leader in the digital music sales market with their Apple iTunes store. The company recently entered into the movie downloads market by adding this service to the iTunes store.
However, the service is missing from most Asian countries. In the Asian Pacific region, Apple operates iTunes only in Australia and Japan. Rest of the countries has no access to this service.
Same would happen with this newly added movie download service. Tony Li, Apple’s marketing director for Asia said in a statement: “We cannot comment on the specifics but it is true that iTunes is not available in Asia. That goes for music and movies.”
Asian countries like India and China are mostly known for digital piracy of software and other digital media. This has resulted in a situation where most studios have refused to collaborate with Apple on launching their services in these markets.
