Google told to remove certain Belgian news items from Google News
US based Search Engine Company Google has been ordered by a Belgian court to stop reproducing articles, photos and graphics from French and German language Belgian newspapers on Google News web service.
The judgment was handed over earlier this month and the courts also said that the company would be fined one-million-Euro daily if it does not comply.
The lawsuit was originally filed by Copiepresse, which represents French and German language papers in Belgium. These newspapers include Le Soir and Libre Belgique.
The courts said in its judgment: “The way in which Google News presently operates causes the publishers of the daily press to lose control of their websites and their contents.â€
Google responded on this judgment: “We are disappointed by the decision, which we believe is flawed and which we intend to appeal.â€
