Google Book Search gets support from Complutense University of Madrid
Complutense University of Madrid has agreed to become a part of the Google Book Search initiative. This makes it the first Spanish-language collection added to the Google Books project.
They are the Spain’s largest university library and are offering out-of-copyright books for indexing.
University chancellor Carlos Berzosa said in a release on this new initiative: “Out-of-copyright books previously only available to people with access to Madrid’s Complutense University Library, or the money to travel, will now be accessible to everyone with an Internet connection, wherever they live. We are quite literally opening our library to the world. The opportunities for education are phenomenal and we are delighted to be working with Google on this project.”
Google and the University would now work together on digitizing hundreds of thousands of public domain works from their libraries and make that content available online.
