Napster enters the Japanese market
Napster Inc has said that they are now entering the Japanese market with their online song distribution service.
They would take on Apple iTunes and other services targeting mobile digital device users in this market.
Napster Japan is made up of a joint venture between Napster and Tower Records Japan Inc. The two companies are collaborating to introduce this service, which would let user download an unlimited number of songs from its database of 1.5 million selections for 1,980 yen a month.
Napster President Brad Duea said in a statement on their plans for Japan: “It would have been very difficult for us to enter this market without a local partner. Japan is a very unique market.”
Napster Japan is also working hard on adding on more local content to attract more consumers. At the moment, majority of songs available are from other countries.
