Sony Blu-Ray recorders coming to Japan in December

Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has confirmed that they would be launching their Blu-Ray recorders in the Japanese market this coming December.

This launch would take place just in time for the holiday season but they would fail to match the timing of their rivals Matsushita Electric Industrial.

Sony Senior Vice President Kiyoshi Nishitani spoke on these products: “We consider the Blu-ray recorder a core product for people in the living room to enjoy high-definition broadcasting, high-definition photos and high-definition movies.”

Sony faces serious challenge from Toshiba who have developed their own storage format named HD DVD. Blu-Ray and HD DVD are both vying for consumer’s attention to become the standard for next generation storage format.
