SD-L902A: Toshiba announces a HD DVD writer for notebooks

The leading developer of the HD DVD format for storage Toshiba has showcased their latest drive named SD-L902A.

It would be the first slim-type HD DVD writer drive targeted at the makers of laptop computers.

Toshiba would be displaying this drive at the Ceatec Show which opens in Tokyo, Japan this week.

The drive would be capable of reading and writing HD DVD, DVD and CD discs. The laptops featuring this drive could be made available in the market sometime early next year.

Toshiba is battling with Sony on setting the standard for complementing the DVD format as the standard for storage. Sony has developed their own format named Blu-Ray, which offer more capacities compared to HD DVD.
