Windows XP SP2 crosses the 100 million milestone
It was touted as the most important update ever in Microsoft’s history for its Operating Systems. Its primary aim was to provide a more secure working environment to the users with important updates to the browser and firewall. And within 2 months, the much hyped updated to the frontline OS has crossed a big milestone with more than 100 million downloads from the Microsoft website. Part of the number also consists of the Service Pack CDs Microsoft delivered free to customers.
Also notable is the fact that many mirror sites were also delivering the Service Pack and it was also available on the Torrent Networks. That would take the number to much more than Microsoft’s released figure. All pointing to the fact that users have embraced the new update to XP.
However, enterprise customers are still behind Microsoft’s expected schedule on applying the update. They are still testing it internally and reporting positive results to Microsoft. It should take around 2-4 months before they start moving on to the SP2 Windows XP installation. Microsoft’s budget for this upgrade plan was in the range of a massive USD 300 million.
