Google to acquire YouTube.com
We already have heard rumors of such a deal and it is now confirmed. Search engine giant Google has said that they are going to acquire the hottest online destination to see user generated videos, YouTube.com.
The deal is worth an astounding $1.65 billion and would be offered in stocks option. It is also said to be the highest price paid till now for a consumer-generated media site.
YouTube.com interestingly is less than two years old and is currently serving more than 100 million videos a day to online users. However, market analysts believe that the company is a potential target for copyright lawsuits from media companies around the world considering a lot of content uploaded to it contains copyrighted material.
In fact, now that Google would own YouTube.com, we could see some big lawsuits coming considering the financial powers of the company.
Google interestingly has their own Google Video website, which provides similar services. It would be interesting to see how they would now co-exist.
Microsoft is said to be another company interested in acquiring YouTube.com. However, they just recently unveiled MSN Soapbox.
