Sony updates its Walkman range of digital music players

Japanese consumer electronics maker Sony has updated its range of Walkman branded digital music players.

These new generation players come with features like noise cancelling and other audio enhancing technology.

This is just the latest attempt from the company to take on market leader Apple Computer and their iPod range of players.

The system on these latest players is tuned to cancel out background noise in the 100Hz to 1kHz range. For this, it uses a microphone to detect the noise to be cancelled out. Users would however require to use the supplied headphones for the noise cancelling to work.

These new Walkman branded players is compatible with MP3, Windows Media, AAC, ATRAC, ATRAC Advanced Lossless and Linear PCM audio files.
