China aims to launch a lunar orbiter in 2007
The Chinese government is aiming to launch their first lunar orbiter in 2007. It would be a research satellite and it would be sent to orbit the Moon in 2007.
This plan was revealed by the head of the national space agency. The country has already successfully launched into orbit two manned space vehicles. They became only the third country in the world to launch a human being into space on its own. Russia and USA are the other two.
Sun Laiyan, head of China’s National Space Administration said in a statement on this topic: “We are planning to launch the [lunar] satellite next year.” he added that the preparation for such a launch is almost complete.
They are also currently actively seeking cooperation with Russia, the United States and Japan in space exploration programs.
