William Shatner pledges USD 200k for Space Travel

Traveling in space has been a desire for many since ages. Nevertheless, it only seems to be coming true in this millennium. Even though we are still years away from mass scale space tourism, the enthusiasm can be seen from the fact that 7000 people have registered and promised to pay a sum of USD 200,000 to Richard Branson, the airline industry tycoon.

The more incredible part of this ordeal is that the spaceship to be used for this flight named Virgin Galactic VSS Enterprise does not exist and is supposed to be flight ready only in 2008. And one of the most famous personalities of the fortunate few is our own Captain Kirk from the Star Trek, William Shatner! Other celebrities in the pack are former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro and an unnamed Hollywood director.

The trip is going to consist of a trip to the edge of the space around 70 miles above the earth and include around 6 minutes of weightlessness. Watching the earth’s curvature is of course the special attraction. Virgin plans to build five such ships and be one of the first commercial space travel company to offer packages to common people who can afford the trip.

Well poor people cant really afford a trip to DisneyLand Park, but they do. If I won the lottery, what better to spend it on than a trip to apace. Mr Shatner must be worth a few mil so why the concern? Better than donating to the big two political parties.

well the reference was more compared to what mr. tito paid for his trip to the space. and well, someday it might become cheap enough for the common man… travel by air is pretty cheap!

did the common man thought he would travel by air when Hindenburg happened?
