AT&T to build a high-speed wireless Internet network in Riverside California

US based telecom giant AT&T has formally received the approval to build its first Wi-Fi network in Riverside California. This network would provide free high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the city.

This deal has been approved by the Riverside City Council and this network is expected to cost around $8.8 million. AT&T would install more than 1,000 access devices around the city to enable this network.

This service would allow people with wi-fi enabled laptops and other devices to access the internet while roaming around in the city. The construction of this network is expected to begin soon and they plan to start offering packages to the people by next year.

Telecom giants like AT&T and Verizon had been reluctant in the early days about providing such free services but similar projects by Google and EarthLink has forced them to rethink their strategies.
