Asia-Pacific region gets its own domain .asia

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has given its approval for the .asia domain name for the Asia-Pacific region.

It also supports supplementing suffixes for individual countries. This is similar to how European countries have had .eu domain extension.

DotAsia Organization Ltd. would now plan to explore permitting domain names in Asian languages under “.asia”.

Companies who wanted this domain name believe that it would give Asian businesses their own identity and would help them target specific markets on the internet.

DotAsia said in a statement that they plan to restrict registrations to those in the region.
