Personal computer sales in Asia up by around 15%
International Data Corp has said in a report that the personal computer sales in the Asian market are up by around 15% for the third quarter of the year.
This data is for Asia Pacific region excluding Japan. The market saw sales of 12.6 million units during the third quarter.
Most of the improvement came from increased demand for notebook computers, which are increasingly becoming a viable replacement for desktop machines.
The sales of notebooks itself was up by around 37 percent. Bryan Ma, a research director with IDC said in a statement: “Despite an easing in notebook growth from 46 percent in the previous quarter to 37 percent in 3Q, notebooks continue to be a catalyst for PC sales in the third quarter.”
He added: “Nearly all the countries managed to beat expectations in this segment… and while political wild cards have appeared in Thailand and North Korea recently, IDC expects notebooks to continue to soar across the region in the upcoming quarters.”
