Sony delays the launch of BDP-S1 Blu-Ray player

Japan based consumer electronics maker Sony continues to announce more delays in the launch of new products.

Sony has now delayed the launch of its Blu-Ray player BDP-S1. This player is now going to ship in the market after the launch of their Sony Playstation 3 gaming console.

The player was due to be launched this month after facing many delays. Sony’s latest launch date is now scheduled for December 4. The Playstation 3 would be launched in the USA on November 17.

Such delays have already damaged Sony’s plans to establish Blu-Ray format as a challenger to the Toshiba’s HD DVD format.

Market analysts believe that Sony is concentrating on producing parts for the Blu-Ray drive, which would ship with the PS3 gaming console. This has delayed the launch of their player, which would sell in the market for USD 999.95 in North America.
