Apple to equip MacBook Pro laptops with Core 2 Duo processors

Apple Computer has confirmed that all of its MacBook Pro notebooks will now feature Intel Core 2 Duo dual-core processors.

The company added that these notebooks would now perform up to 39 percent faster. These notebooks would now also include twice as much memory.

The storage capacities of MacBook Pro notebooks is also been enhanced. Apple added that the new units also have a FireWire 800 port for connecting to high-speed peripherals.

The $1,999 model of the MacBook Pro would feature a 15.4-inch widescreen display, a 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 1 GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, (expandable to 3 GB), a 120-Gbyte Serial ATA hard drive and a slot-load 6x SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD+R, DL/DVDRW/CD-RW).

The $2,499 model would come with a 2.33GHz processor and 2 GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

The $2,799 model of the MacBook Pro comes with a 17-inch widescreen and sports a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo processor. It comes with 2 GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (expandable to 3 GB), a 160-Gbyte Serial ATA hard drive and a slot-load 8x SuperDrive. It also has three USB 2.0 ports.
