T-Mobile HotSpot@Home: T-Mobile launches a new Wi-Fi calling service
Mobile service provider T-Mobile has launched a new Wi-Fi calling service, named T-Mobile HotSpot@Home in Seattle.
This technology is currently available on two cell phones, the Samsung T709 or Nokia 6136. Customers can use these mobile handsets to make calls both over T-Mobile’s traditional cellular network and over Wi-Fi.
These phones cost $49.99 each with a two-year contract. In addition, users have to pay $19.99 per month over the price of a T-Mobile voice plan for unlimited Wi-Fi calling costs. They get a free, re-labeled D-Link 802.11g Wi-Fi router with this plan.
A company spokesperson said in an emailed statement on this new development: “Consumers in greater Seattle are currently able to purchase T-Mobile HotSpot@Home products and service through a pilot program at 24 Seattle-area T-Mobile retail stores. The service, along with the supporting handsets and routers, are not currently available for purchase beyond the Seattle market.”
