Venice: Skype founders to launch advertising-supported Internet television

Skype co-founder Janus Friis spoke with a media group that they are soon going to launch a new product which would deliver ad-supported quality programming through internet television.

The project has been named Venice and it would bring free television content for consumers who have broadband connectivity.

He said: “We will simply present it to the public when we feel that it works well enough and there is enough content. And it will not be much longer before it is out. It is a question of a month or two.”

Friis further said: “This is a system where people with professional content can put it out (on the Internet). And that can be anybody.”

The success of the project depends upon timing which seems to be perfect at the moment considering more and more web users are using the internet to get access to video content and sites like YouTube.com are hugely popular on the web.
