Apple upgrades iPod to support images

Apple today released two new versions of their flagship digital music player iPod. Both were highly anticipated and were on expected lines. One is a special edition iPod, which they are releasing in partnership with the very popular music group U2. It is named iPod U2 Special Edition and it is black in color in contrast to lighter colors for normal iPod.

The U2 special edition release is also coinciding with the release of the new U2 single Vertigo from their new album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. They are also planning a new set called The Complete U2, which would consist of around 400 songs to be available from the Apple’s music store iTunes in the coming weeks.

The other and the more interesting release is of iPod Photo. It is an enhanced version of iPod, which would let users share and view images. It is more of a multimedia device, which comes up with a colored screen unlike normal iPod and has higher storage capacities of 40GB and 60GB. The prices are on the higher side ranging from USD499 to USD599.

500 dollars for a device that let us share images and hear songs. Considering an iBook cost 1000 dollars, users might find these prices a little too much. If apple can incorporate video playing capabilities in the near future, it has another winner at hand. It still leads the digital music player market comprehensively with more than 6 million iPods sold. Virgin just recently entered the market with their music player and Sony has enhanced their range with new MP3 supporting players.
