Inspiron 1501: Dell launches AMD processor powered notebooks

US based PC manufacturing giant Dell has announced their first laptops to be powered by AMD processors. The first laptop featuring an AMD processor is Inspiron 1501.

The company is offering users a choice between AMD’s low-end Sempron, mobile Turion 64, and dual-core Turion 64 X2 chips on this particular model of the laptop.

Dell is planning to target home entertainment and small business users with this machine. And they are offering a baseline configuration of the Sempron chip, widescreen 15.4-inch display, 80GB hard drive, and 512MB of memory. The laptop price starts at $549.

The company had announced in May that they would start selling products featuring AMD processors. That changed their age old tradition of selling only Intel powered products.

Dell has already launched desktops and server based products powered by AMD processors.
