Sony to launch “X-Men: The Last Stand” on Blu-Ray disc this month
Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has said that they would be launching “X-Men: The Last Stand” movie on their Blu-Ray format disc on November 14.
Interestingly, the launch is scheduled for just three days before Sony’s next-generation video game console Playstation 3 makes its debut in the US market.
Sony Playstation 3 comes with a Blu-Ray drive and is cheaper than most Blu-Ray players available in the market.
Market analysts believe that the success of the Playstation 3 gaming console would in the end determine the success of the Blu-Ray format which is competing against HD DVD format to become the standard for next generation storage.
Steve Feldstein, senior vice president marketing communications for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment spoke on this new development: “The demographics between ‘X-Men’ and PlayStation 3 are a near-perfect match. This is the biggest new release yet for Blu-ray, and we’re working closely with retailers and others to ensure that when people are buying their PS3s, they’re going to know they can get ‘X-Men’ to play on it.
Some other movie titles due for launch this November 14 include “Behind Enemy Lines,” “Fantastic Four,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” “Kiss of the Dragon,” “The Omen,” “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” “Speed” and “The Transporter.”
