Core 2 Extreme Q6700: Intel launches Quad-Core processor

Microprocessor company Intel has launched their first quad core processors in the market. These processors are codenamed Kentsfield and they have integrated two Core 2 chips into a single package to develop this new generation of processors.

The company has made available their Core 2 Extreme Q6700 processors in the market. This processor is being aimed at high-end enthusiasts and gamers. Intel would launch their Core 2 Quad processors early next year.

Intel has used a multi-die package for this processor and it has a total cache of 8MB, split across the two CPUs.

The company added that as many as 13 PC manufacturers are going to launch products based on this processor in the coming days. Intel also launched a new motherboard D976XBX2. It has been optimized for Core 2 Quad processor.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processors would be available in retail stores from 14 November 2006, with a retail price of around £700.
