Softbank and News Corp to launch MySpace Japan edition

News Corp. and Japanese telecom company Softbank have confirmed that they are working together to offer the MySpace.com online community site in Japan.

The two entities are joining hands to setup a 50-50 joint venture for MySpace in Japan. They are aiming to launch the Japanese version of MySpace.com by next year.

The service would also be made available to mobile phone users which are in plenty in the country. In fact, Japanese web users are more likely to use a mobile device to access the net than a personal computer.

MySpace.com has been one of the fastest growing internet website in the recent months and has more than 125 million users worldwide.

Softbank Chief Executive Masayoshi Son said in a statement on this deal: “Softbank will help add functions and services to MySpace that would meet the needs of Japanese users.”
