Vodafone to enter broadband service market in UK

UK based mobile service provider Vodafone has said that they would soon start offering combined mobile and Internet packages.

This would make them a part of the growing number of companies offering combined solutions for mobile telephony and broadband connectivity.

Vodafone said in a statement that it would offer its British contract customers broadband Internet and free calls to landlines for an additional 25 pounds per month.

This service would be made available to its customers by January next year. The company faces challenges from rivals including BSkyB, Carphone Warehouse and France Telecom unit Orange.

The company is not interested in building its own network but would be renting wholesale Internet access from telecoms operator BT Group.
