IBM showcases Servers powered with Intel Quad-Core Chips
US based tech giant IBM has joined the list of server manufacturers to showcase their products powered with Intel quad-core Xeon processors.
The company has introduced four rack servers and one blade server which uses the recently launched Xeon 5300 processors. These are priced starting from $2,400.
What is a quad-core processor? This processor combines four independent processors into a single package. It allows the computer to exhibit thread-level parallelism without requiring multiple microprocessors in separate physical packages.
IBM said in a statement that its x3650 server with a quad-core processor showed a 64 percent increase in performance compared to the same model running only a dual-core processor.
