NTT DoCoMo to offer PCs and Mobile phones on auction in partnership with Rakuten
Japan based mobile service provider NTT DoCoMo is collaborating with online shopping store Rakuten to offer personal computers and mobile phones on auction online.
The two companies would also work together to offer a social network service as part of their tie-up which was announced last year.
NTT DoCoMo would be taking a 40 percent stake for 4.2 billion yen in this new company formed by a spin-off of Rakuten’s auction business.
This collaboration would be challenging the current dominating players in the market including Yahoo Japan Corp. and other mobile players including KDDI Corp. and Softbank Corp.
NTT DoCoMo is also working hard on making its “wallet phone” service popular which enables the consumer to use their mobile phone to pay for stuff in retail stores.
