Skoda might start assembling Audi and Volkswagen in India

As per incoming information, Skoda might start assembling Volkswagen’s mid-size Passat car for sale in the Indian market. The company is already expected to launch their own small car named Fabia in India sometime next year.

The Economic Times newspaper in India has said in a report that Audi, anther of the Volkswagen Company is now expected to use the facilities of Skoda to assemble their own cars here in India. Audi is expected to use their plant for assembling their A4 model.

The newspaper quoted Lukas Folc as saying: “Some products from group companies will be assembled here, especially those where the platform is the same and we can use the synergies.”

The company expects to launch their Volkswagen branded cars by early next year. Audi would soon follow up with their assembling.

Skoda incidentally is also working on raising its assembly capacity in Maharashtra to 50,000 units per year from 29,000 units. They would also be adding another shift over the years to meet up the growing demand in the domestic market.
